- It is simply a group of 8 bits. Some might refer to it as a byte however
- byte is a rather looser term mainly used in reference to computer memory or
- storage. Byte isn't always used to refer to 8 bits so 'octet' is used to
- cut through the confusion (once you know what it means). Also bytes usually
- fall on specific regular boundaries whereas an octet can in principle be any
- adjacent group of 8 bits.
